    Newport fruit and vegie swap

    * Are you growing some great tomatoes that you'd like to share?
    * Have you got more fruit on your trees than you know what to do with?
    * Do you have more basil than you can handle?

The Newport Fruit and Vegie Swap is an gathering of backyard harvesters who have extra produce that they'd like to share and swap with others. Everyone is welcome!

When is it? The Swap will be on the third Sunday of every month - from 10:30 to 11:30am.

Where is it? It's at Newport Lakes. Just through the entrance from Mason St at the under-cover BBQ area on your left. Melways Ref 55 G3.

How does it work? Swappers bring their produce and put it on a common table and then swap it for other produce on the table. It's pretty casual, no bartering occurs and no money changes hands. It's up to the swapper to decide what is fair. The Fruit and Vegie is starting as a pilot project and it may evolve as we go.

You can swap your produce for what ever you need. You could turn your extra figs into lemons, eggplants into zucchini, or roses into eggs. Hopefully you'll also pick up some gardening tips and have a great time while you're there.

Some things you might want to bring along -

    • Fresh fruit , vegetables & herbs
    • Seeds, seedlings, cuttings & flowers
    • Jams, chutneys, sauces & eggs (all dated please)
Bring recipes, gardening tips and your good cheer.

Hope to see you (and your harvest) there!

The Newport Fruit and Vegie Swap meet has been initiated by Transition Hobsons Bay. We're a local group of people who want to help build a sustainable community. And, we make sure that we have some fun while we're at it. If you want to find out more about us and our projects have a look at out group website. Maybe you'd like to get involved.. check out www.transitionhb.groupsite.com or email transitionhb@gmail.com
